What a beautiful blue planet we inhabit.
The blue of the seas and lakes.
Blue creatures.
A favorite place on a recent trip to Italy was Assisi and I loved the changing blue sky that outlined the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi.
From midday:
To that intoxicating deep blue of twilight:
How about the many shades and patterns of blue in decor?
We get the blues.
Blue gets a bad rap. To have the blues should be a glorious thing. A great mood!
Why so blue?
One should be so lucky.
Is blue a favorite color for you?
A particular shade?
A memory?
The blueness of blue is serene and peaceful to me.
Not a place to escape.

That blue bird is simply stunning. And yes, blue is a calming colour rather than a melancholy one for me. Now grey is another question entirely…
Oh yeah……grey. There’s been way too much of that lately Sue.
Blue definitely is a favorite of mine. Maybe because I spent my first 30+ years so close to water? Now that I’m in the desert, any little glimpse of natural blue is like a cool drink for my eyes.
And there are soooo many blues. have you ever gone looking for one particular shade – of paint, or fabric, or a sweater – and not been able to find it because there are just so many? It’s overwhelming in a kind of wonderful way.

Yes I have, Katrina – and find navy blue is one of the hardest to match. Thirty plus years close to water? Lucky you!
Oh and WHAT is that adorable blue fluff ball of a bird? Something makes me think nuthatch or titmouse, but I can’t find such a brilliant blue one!

I’m not sure, Katrina. Here in Colorado we have so many bluebirds – Mountain Bluebirds and Blue Jays being most prevalent. They’re always a thrill to see because they’re so brilliant.
Stunning Barbara, I particularly like the day and night shot. Have always loved blue best.

It hasn’t been my favorite until recently. Now I see it and appreciate it everywhere!
Blue is such a beautiful color. I agree with you that it receives a bad rap. I agree with Elephant’s Child that grey is a dressing color, although I do have a charcoal colored dress that I do absolutely adore because it can be dressed up so easily.
Isn’t it strange that we assign emotions to colors? At least on the West Coast, most rental units are painted “Navajo White”, which looks like a nicotine stained white even in the can. That to me is a completely depressing color. When I lived in England, I complimented someone on being bold with color for painting the walls a beautiful yellow. Well it turns out “magnolia” is their “Navajo white”! That color that me was so beautiful to them was a constant reminder that they were renters.

Love your description of Navajo White, Tammy. More accurate than its name on the can, I’m sure. Color preference is definitely personal.
Of course, nature’s blue is always very very welcome and beautiful. I have, however, had trouble wanting to incorporate blue into any of my quilting or hand made creations. It is never my go to color. Shades of blue are my daughter’s favorite go-to, therefore, I have been rethinking and trying to imagine a bit more blue. It has been hard, but fun and good for my brain. Looking through my stash of fabric, I realized that I had very little blue and am now purposefully looking at blues whilst out and about. Your post was fortuitous and a reminder to me of how beautiful blue is.
Your stash sounds like mine as far as being lean on the blues. I think we had so much blue in my home growing up that I had a knee-jerk reaction to it when I ventured out on my own. I love the indigo and denim shades – or the robin egg blue and am working at bringing more of that inside as well. Happy blue stash enhancing to you!
I adore blue – in particular the bolder hues. Just yesterday I noted the clarity of the blue sky, which hasn’t been seen in what seems like weeks (of gray and rain). The color was a jolt of energy!
One of the most fabulous blue skies I recall ever seeing was in Marseille, believe it or not. I can still picture it in my mind. Glorious.

DA, don’t you love it when those images stay with you? That’s a gift twice, or several times given.
Blue is one of my favorite colors, Barb (the other being green!). As a Web designer, I’ve found most clients tend to prefer shades of blue for its connotation of “true, solid, dependable.”
You’ve captured some amazing shots — the bird and the sky over the basilica, especially.
I think what makes blue so amazing is just how many shades of it there are — from very pale (almost white) to deep navy (almost black). And if you mix it with other colors, why the possibilities are endless!

I so agree, Debbie – isn’t color wonderful? And blue being true, solid and dependable is an interesting trio of adjectives.
I want that sink!!!!!!
Me too, Erica – me too!
Love blue, all blue. Navy to me speaks of depth and safety. The first thing I did when we moved into this incredibly beige house 14 yrs ago was paint the dining room navy. I never associate blue with depression or sadness.

“Navy to me speaks of depth and safety.” Only you, May, would be so poetic about navy blue. That’s why I love what you write. Even in a comment.
