This Mr and Mrs had had our fill of gray days, cloudy days, misty winter days – so we headed to the Oregon coast since the weather reports had been taunting us with the fact that it’s been sunny there.
We did find sunshine.
We did find refreshing blue waters.
But it was the monotone hearts as we walked along the beach that were captivating.
Nature is a such a mystery.
How much tossing and tumbling and turning had shaped these stones into hearts?
How gracious of the Pacific to carve them and then leave them generously at our feet.
We live always on the cusp of poetry and reality.
We traveled that day to escape the gray – and yet it was the same monochromatic shades in pebbles and sand and transparent bubbly surf that was so beautiful.
Little hearts.
Simple truths.
I was reminded of an often quoted line from The Little Prince:
It is only with the heart that one can see rightly;
what is essential is invisible to the eye.
-Antoine De Saint-Exupery
Have you been enlightened by nature lately?
I went home seeing and appreciating Oregon’s gray skies, rain clouds, misty air and bare branch trees for their subtle beauty and soft light.
And I have to admit, their transient, fleeting stay.

There is serendipitous beauty all around us, we just need the will to see it. Thanks for the beautiful reminder.
I agree Karen. Perception is just about everything.
Gorgeous…
One of my kids sent me a photo from snow-covered New England! That’s always humbling.
Your pictures are just beautiful!

Complaining about the weather seems always to be relative, doesn’t it?
We’ve had a string of gray, dreary days, too, but I comfort myself that maybe they’ll translate to a drought-free summer! I’m not particularly keen on the rain, but at least I’m not having to shovel it — nor does Darling Doggie track snowballs inside. Muddy paws? Well, that’s another story!

Yes, Debbie, rain runs, rain puddles, but it doesn’t need to be shoveled. Coming from Colorado, it’s something I can definitely appreciate about the NW winter.
The photos are simply stunning. I can’t believe you found that many heart rocks! The perfect walk with your valentine!

It was a perfect walk with my Valentine, you’re so right May. And we actually found many more heart shaped rocks – enough for a small jar – I just didn’t photograph them all! IT was amazing.
Agree with May—your photos are lovely! I had no idea that West Coast water could be so blue.

Isn’t it beautiful Bethany? I’m glad you stopped in today for the first time – Welcome!
Sunshine at the seashore! Talk about a sight for sore eyes.

Those rocks are so amazing. I have to start paying more attention to what’s down below, rather than looking up all the time. I am always looking at leaves and birds and sky things, and have tripped and fallen enough times to know better! Maybe if I think about pretty rocks I won’t spend so much time in the ER getting stitched up.

Ahhh, but Katrina, looking down too much and being too entranced with what’s at our feet can lead to walking into glass doors, poles and tripping on rocks. I speak from experience. Either way I suppose it’s best to move slowly.
Ahhh, yes I have been enlightened by nature lately.I have been skiing more this year than usual;the snow, clean air, trees glistening with crystals etc. It makes me feel so at peace. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Diane, having grown up skiing in the Rockies – I absolutely understand that feeling. There’s no place as peaceful to my soul as on the slopes in winter. Have fun!
These photos are exquisite. Nature reminds us of so much goodness, doesn’t it? Reading your words and perusing your pictures really offered me a sense of comfort.

I’m so pleased by that Rudri – and always pleased when you stop in.
No, but it’s my fault. Actually, I’ve thinking how I’ve been spending too much time inside and not enough outside. You pos reminded me how much I need a getaway to the coast, even for a couple of days. Inspiring, as always.
